The Climate Reality Project Europe calls on the European Commission and Member States to fully grasp the decarbonization momentum by using the Recovery Package process to build a resilient and carbon-free future for the European Union. We cannot make a U-turn and go back to ‘business-as-usual’ but instead must forge a new and fair recovery to support the ambitious goal of zero or net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040.
The most recent climate science and mistakes of past economic shocks must be learned from and forgiven to achieve these goals.
The Climate Reality Project Europe joins with other like-minded organizations in demanding a green recovery that benefits and is dictated by the people first. This means that local communities must be supported in their climate emergency goals, regional development funds should be based on zero-carbon development, that bailouts should help citizens above fossil fuel companies, and that communities in transition are afforded the opportunity to dictate their dignified future. We look forward to working with the European Commission and Member States towards these goals.
