The Climate Reality Project Europe
Community Code of Conduct

Introduction
Climate Reality Europe’s Hubs bring together volunteers from different backgrounds who care about creating positive climate action in their communities.

To collaborate effectively and maintain a safe, welcoming and respectful environment, we agree to follow this Code of Conduct.

This Code is not a legal contract., It is a shared commitment to how we treat one another. Participation in a Climate Hub is fully voluntary.

“We” used in this document refers to all members of Climate Hubs by Climate Reality - including trained Climate Reality Leaders, non-Leader Hub members, Hub Leads and Co-Leads - as well as the staff of The Climate Reality Project Europe.

Our values

Respect and Inclusion
We value the diversity of people, experiences, and perspectives within our network. We treat one another with dignity and we create spaces where everyone feels heard and able to participate.

Collaboration
We believe that meaningful progress happens when people work together and leadership is shared. We listen to understand, express disagreement respectfully, and focus on solutions and the collective mission rather than conflicts and private interests.

Integrity and responsibility
We act honestly, take responsibility for our words and actions, and communicate in ways that build trust. We share information openly and represent the Climate Reality network accurately, respectfully and based on the Branch’s data protection and media policies.

Expected conduct:
As a member of a Climate Hub, you agree to:

  • Communicate respectfully online and in person.

  • Welcome diverse perspectives and avoid personal attacks.

  • Work collaboratively, focusing on shared goals than personal agendas.

  • Follow agreed Hub & Branch processes and decisions.

  • Use Hub & Branch communication channels for climate-related collaboration only, not for personal, political, or commercial promotion.

  • Respect confidentiality and the privacy of others.

Unacceptable behavior:
The following behaviours are not tolerated  (non exhaustive list):

  • Aggressive, hostile, or intimidating communication.

  • Spreading false or misleading information about individuals, other members or the organisation.

  • Deliberate dissemination of disinformation that undermines the organization’s mission  Or contradicts well-established scientific consensus on climate change.

  • Harassment, discrimination or exclusion.

  • Repeated disruption of hub activities or decision-making process.

  • Misuse of Climate Reality’s name, brand, or resources.

  • Any form of retaliation against those who raise concerns in good faith.

If a member’s actions conflict with this Code, Hubs will engage in open and compassionate dialogue to restore alignment and understanding.

Persistent or serious breaches may lead to a pause or withdrawal of participation at the sole discretion of Climate Reality Europe.

Online and Public Representation
Volunteers are expected to act and communicate honestly and with integrity at all times when representing the Climate Hub or the Climate Reality Project Europe in a way that does not bring the organization, its associated organizations, Leads or other staff or volunteers into disrepute. The terms and conditions of liability and branding are clearly stated in the Hub Agreement signed by Hub Leaders when setting up a Hub.

Handling concerns and breaches
If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code, you can report it (orally and then in written form) confidentially to your:

  • Hub Leader, or if not appropriate,

  • Regional Organizer, or

  • Climate Reality Europe Branch Manager

Reports will be treated respectfully and handled as confidentially as possible.

Depending on the severity and frequency of the behavior, actions may include (non-exhaustive list):

  • Informal conversation - a private discussion or mediation to clarify expectations.

  • Written warning - if the behavior continues or is serious

  • Suspension or removal from the Hub - decided jointly by the Regional Organizer and the Branch Manager.

  • Escalation to the Climate Reality HQ - for severe breaches (harassment, threats, reputational harm), the Branch may refer the matter to the HQ, which may remove the individual from the Climate Reality Leadership Corps (if applicable).

All actions will be guided by fairness, and respect for everyone involved, ensuring that each person is heard and treated with dignity.
